Erased Tapes 17 continues our annual tradition

6.12  2024

Continuing our annual tradition of label compilations, we release today Erased Tapes 17, curated and sequenced by label founder Robert Raths, marking the label’s seventeenth year.

To introduce the 19-track long player, Raths says:

“Erased Tapes 17 is inspired by the feeling of adolescence. In many ways, this year has seen the label and its artists transition from one state to the other. For example Douglas, who traded in his main instrument the piano for drum machines and synthesisers, or Ben, who revisited the impulses of his youth with the skill set of a seasoned electronic composer. Whilst Ólafur reunited with Janus for their long-awaited second Kiasmos album. These formed the launch pad from which I'm able to take the listener on this sonic expedition.“

The album features a brand new single by London-based German music producer and filmmaker Daniel Brandt, taken from his yet to be announced third album for the label. The song features Japanese artist Hatis Noit on vocal duties.

The compilation features unexpected collaborations, including Hatis Noit teaming up with Preservation and NY rap duo billy woods & Elucid aka Armand Hammer, or Masayoshi Fujita with American poet Moor Mother. These were some of the highlights in a year filled with excitement that also saw Sheherazaad and Tristan Perich join the Erased Tapes collective. With so much more to come in 2025, including new music from Rival Consoles, the return of David Allred, Peter Broderick, Daniel Brandt and last but not least, Crayon.
