Portland-based composer and producer David Allred returns with The Beautiful World, the title track from his forthcoming album, set for release on January 24. This single introduces listeners to the emotional depth and introspective beauty that define his fourth album for us, marking a significant chapter in his creative evolution.

The new single is a meditative exploration of life’s complexities, mental health struggles, and the desire for community amidst physical and emotional distance. Combining organ, voices, and tape processing, Allred creates a sonic landscape that echoes with his trademark sincerity. Lyrically, Allred “leans more abstract” than concrete. “I want to belong in the beautiful world” becomes mantra-like, followed by Allred’s drifting observations set to a steady drone and percussion that sounds like the click of a Polaroid camera.

“‘The Beautiful World’ is about longing for a sense of community when friends are vastly scattered far and wide. Navigating the complexities of life and feeling a profound appreciation for old normalcy whilst reaching for an appreciation for what I have and who I am now,” he adds.

The title track’s music video was filmed and directed by Allred and his partner Fay Funk in a collection of locations around the Pacific Northwest. For David it highlights its beauty and unique mixture of vast nature and city, with a convincing sense of opportunity for community but a lack of tangible community. “It was inspired by a longing of change and connection within ourselves internally and how that brings us to others externally.”
