“This song is for my dad, who always preferred to be called Pop by us kids.

The song is called ‘But’ because at some stage I noticed Pop would often end a sentence with ‘but…’. For example, “I like when it’s not too hot out, but…” . . . and this used to drive me absolutely mad! But what?!?! Then one day in my mid twenties I started noticing that I was doing it too! How we’re all so terrified when we realise we’re becoming our parents! Eventually I came to appreciate this little thing though . . . I feel it’s a way of making a statement and then opening it up to invite different views. “I think this album is incredible, but…” — Peter Broderick
